Prescribing clinicians can request DoseSpot two-factor authentication (TFA) activation directly from Carepatron, instead of filing a support ticket. Two-factor setup is required before a clinician can sign and send electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS). Once requested, an in-page walkthrough shows exactly where to finish the remaining steps inside DoseSpot.
This article is for prescribing clinicians who are enrolled and identity-verified in ePrescribe. No admin setup is required - the feature is active automatically once ePrescribe is enabled for your workspace.

Requesting TFA activation in Carepatron
This is the first step, done by the clinician from their own credentials panel. It replaces the previous process of emailing support to request activation manually.
Go to Settings, then ePrescribe, then Personal details, and find the Two-factor authentication row under Your credentials.
Click Set up to send the activation request to DoseSpot immediately.
Confirm the "Two-factor setup requested" message appears and the row updates to Requested with the date and time.
Review the walkthrough that expands automatically, including a short recording of the DoseSpot completion path.
No DEA number on record? Set up stays disabled until you add one under Licenses and certifications on the same page. Setup can only be started by the clinician it belongs to, an admin, colleague, or support agent can't request it for someone else.
Completing TFA activation in DoseSpot
Once activation is requested, the remaining steps happen inside DoseSpot itself. Proceed to DoseSpot opens the completion screen directly, so you don't need to hunt for it.
Click Proceed to DoseSpot in the walkthrough to open DoseSpot directly on the completion screen.
Enter your mobile number and follow the Duo Mobile app prompts sent by text.
Create your prescriber PIN when prompted or enter your existing PIN if you already use one.
Return to Carepatron once DoseSpot confirms two-factor is active. The credentials row disappears automatically.
For the full DoseSpot walkthrough - mobile number, Duo Mobile app install, and passcode - see the two-factor authentication section of our eRx setup guide.
Closed DoseSpot before finishing? Click Finish set up on the credentials row at any time to reopen the walkthrough.
Two-factor authentication reactivation
If two-factor authentication was previously active and is later switched off, the setup option will no longer appear in this row. Contact support@carepatron.com, and our team can reactivate it for you.
How to access
To start two-factor setup:
Open Settings → ePrescribe → Personal details and find the Your credentials panel.
Locate the Two-factor authentication row below the credentials warning.
Press Set up. If the action is disabled, add your DEA number under Licenses and certifications first, then return to this page.
Follow the walkthrough that expands, then press Proceed to DoseSpot to complete setup inside DoseSpot. For the full DoseSpot activation steps (mobile number, Duo Mobile app, passcode, and PIN), see the two-factor authentication section of our eRx setup guide.
To verify Clinician-Initiated Two-Factor Setup is active:
Sign in as an enrolled, identity-verified clinician who does not yet have two-factor active.
Confirm the Two-factor authentication row appears in Your credentials with the description "Required to sign and send prescriptions for controlled substances."
After pressing Set up, confirm the "Two-factor setup requested" message appears and the row changes to "Requested" with a date and time.
Confirm Finish set up expands the walkthrough with the recording and the Proceed to DoseSpot button.
