If you or your patients rely on live captioning during video calls, Carepatron supports the use of Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services.
CART is a real-time captioning service where a trained stenographer listens to a conversation and instantly types captions for the person who needs them.
In this article, we will cover:
How CART works with Carepatron
With the sidecar method, a CART stenographer joins the video call as a regular participant using the standard meeting join link. They listen to the conversation and deliver live captions through their own captioning platform, such 1CapApp. The person who needs captions opens a second browser window with the caption stream link provided by their CART service.
To do this:
Schedule your telehealth appointment as normal in Carepatron.
Share the meeting join link with your CART provider or stenographer ahead of the appointment.
The stenographer joins the call as a participant at the scheduled time.
The stenographer streams live captions through their captioning platform (for example, StreamText).
The person requiring captions opens the caption stream link in a separate browser window or on a second device, alongside the video call.
What you need
The practice must be on a Plus or Advanced Carepatron plan to host group video calls. This is required for the CART stenographer to join as a participant.
There is no additional cost from Carepatron for this functionality.
The CART captioning service itself is a third-party service. Any costs or account requirements associated with it are managed separately between the practice and its chosen CART provider.
Coming soon: Built-in live transcription
We are working on a built-in live transcription feature that will automatically generate real-time captions directly within your Carepatron video calls. We will share more details when it becomes available.
